Best Exhibitor Awards 2012

Burundi ist Best of the Best

And the Tourism Oscar goes to… / Press release, Saturday, March 10th 2012

Once again, the allocation of the Best Exhibitor Awards (BEA) by Cologne Business School students within the scope of the International Tourism Exchange in Berlin was a very special trade fair highlight.

For days on end, the future tourism managers, most of whom opted for the core subject of Tourism, have visited some 11,000 booths at the ITB and assessed them according to numerous criteria such as booth construction, information contents, service quality, friendliness and special effects.

This was then finalised this evening: the Awards Show started on the trade fair grounds in the Marshall House, a location steeped in tradition, at 6 p.m. As last year, the CBS students Svenja Heidemann and Elena Käser lead through the programme and moderated the prizegiving. The respective three best placed booths in each category were honoured in front of more than 600 invited guests.

The patron of the project is Klaus Laepple, President of the Federal Association of the German Tourism Industry. In his name, the Association’s Press Officer, Nicole von Stockert, held a welcoming address, thanked the students for their outstanding commitment and wished the project a successful future.

Martina Leicher from the Cologne Consultancy COMPASS GmbH, which mentors the project since its initiation, drew attention to the ever-increasing popularity of the BEA: „When we started to have the ITB booths assessed by Tourism students twelve years ago, we occasionally harvested benevolent smiles. Now the exhibitors view the BEA as an important benchmark and do a lot to achieve a good placing.“

Following four intense trade fair days, Prof. Dr. Guido Sommer, Dean of the Tourism Department at the CBS, draws a positive conclusion: „The assessment criteria have been further optimised, the higher semester students have trained the students involved for the first time highly professionally and I look forward to walking around the trade fair to invite the prizewinners to the Award Show after all the sheets have been evaluated.“

The CBS and COMPASS will also continue the project in 2013 and evaluate the trade fair booths as a partner to Messe Berlin in order to honour the most impressive of them with the Best Exhibitor Award.
